Sustainable & Circular Accommodation Program: Sustainability Spotlight
Work with us to help shape the future of sustainable tourism in the Pacific Rim and beyond.
As tourism continues to spike across Tofino and Ucluelet, we recognize how it may impact our delicate natural environments. The Den’s Sustainable and Circular Accommodation Program (S.C.A.P.) encourages the use of ocean-friendly, refillable, and biodegradable products in all of our partner sustainable accommodations. With S.C.A.P., you can enjoy your stay in Tofino and Ucluelet knowing that you’re supporting a greener future.
A Stamp of Pride that Sets you Apart
S.C.A.P. is more than a label, it’s a commitment to sustainable practices that distinguishes your accommodation from others. For each of our partners, we expect the highest level of transparency and desire to grow within the sustainability world. We offer all of the products necessary for getting your accommodation up and ready: Amenities, toiletries, cleaning products, and more! Find more of our refill options here. By participating, you join a community focused on transparency and responsible practices, making refilling and recycling easier for both guests and hosts.
Our new tier-based program provides a clear and easy to follow roadmap to becoming a circular and sustainable accommodation. Each tier level is defined by your accommodation’s commitment to the program and to sustainable circular systems.
The gold tier is the ultimate sustainable accommodation partnership. S.C.A.P. Gold members offer full transparency with guests that every amenity and housekeeping product is sustainable and as local as possible. They are a part of a a completely closed loop system, with goals to achieve near zero waste and minimize carbon footprints by implementing sustainable practices at every level of their operations. These are the leaders protecting the environment of their local community.
Closed loop systems - At The Den, we recognize the finite nature of resources and strive to manage them sustainably for future generations. Our refill program helps eliminate single-use items by re-using and repurposing larger containers within the community and utilizing natural ingredients in our protects to protect local ecosystems.
Evergreen Co.: Gold Tier Member
Evergreen Cleaning Co. is an exemplary Gold Tier member. April and Jamie were both born and raised in Tofino on the ancestral and unceded territory of the Tla-o-qui-aht people. They grew up alongside each other when Tofino was just a small town, and everybody knew everybody. As adults, they connected over their appreciation for quality cleaning, curating beautiful spaces, and a mutual love of cold ocean dips.
When dreaming up Evergreen Co.—a short term rental management and cleaning company in Tofino—they knew that sustainability had to be at the forefront of their business model.
Their goal was to provide a quality guest experience while being mindful of the environment. The travel industry is one that they both love but it is often known for its negative impact on communities, their natural spaces and wildlife.
S.C.A.P. provides services to make refilling more accessible for accommodations and to provide transparent, vetted responsible products for their guests. Evergreen Co. receives all of their guest amenities, housekeeping products and other necessary items for their accommodations from the Den Refillery by the S.C.A.P. weekly delivery system. This closed-loop system that The Den Refillery offers has played a pivotal role in accomplishing Evergreen's goal of sustainability.
Any single-use items that Evergreen provides are biodegradable and ocean safe! They also take the time and care to recycle and compost waste appropriately.
